Legally Blonde: The Musical |
] |

A couple of weeks ago I bought the soundtrack of Legally Blonde: The Musical after watching the film for the millionth time and stumbling upon this on iTunes. I had no idea it even existed up until that point and it was a total impulse purchase. I listened to it once or twice and enjoyed but didn't get really into it.
A few days ago, while I was doing my laundry, one of the songs came on while I was playing Solitaire on my iPod and I absolutely loved it. I decided to listen to it again and I've not listened to anything else since. Like most musicals, it's got a couple songs that are skippable but there's at least four really good songs and then most of them are really enjoyable. It's also quite funny, including the song "There Right There" which should actually have been entitled "Gay or European?" where the cast try to figure out if the poolboy is gay or just European. It's hilarious.
Anyway, I'm totally in love with it and it's given me loads of energy and optimism. I checked it out on Wikipedia and it turns out that it will be coming to the West End in the Spring of 2009. I can't wait! Here's hoping it'll do well here in the UK. It might be a bit odd with a British cast so it'll be interesting to see how it translates or if they'll get an all-American cast (or at least an American lead - I really can't imagine Elle Woods with a British accent).

Bo Jo is going to ban drinking on trams, tubes, buses and the light railway.
Hmmmmm, I wonder what the point of that is cause from my experience, it's the people that are already drunk that bother me. Also, funny how it's not banned on overland trains where a lot of suburban services actually sell alcohol on the trains. We must make sure their revenue is not cut into in any way....
This is just the start as well. I can't wait to see what more he is going to come up with. Everyone thought it was going to be a laugh to have good ole babbling Bo Jo as mayor. Well, the party is over on public transport now. Where else is the party going to end?
Mind, in saying that, I don't think that it's the possible ban that bothers me so much but more of the silliness of the policy. It's not going to do anything. It will be impossible to police and what is the point in doing it on everything other than trains where it is so obvious that the reason they haven't is what I have mentioned above. I mean, seriously, what's next? Banning drunk people from public transport? Yes, I know, that is just silly but the funny thing is, if there is a problem where alcohol and public transport is concerned, that's the one!
Anyway, we shall wait and see....

The latest news is that I've not gotten into uni again. Which kind of blows ass. However, I'm not really going to bitch and whine about it. After looking at the graduates work I'm sure I can compete with the best of them.
Here's my latest thing but I'm moving over to blogger (http://dumplingdough.blogspot.com) so If you want to see more of the same then seek it there.
I'll still keep the ole' LJ up but I probably won't be updating it much.

The noise officer finally called me and said he would come over shortly a couple of hours ago but I went to the gym after he called and now that I'm back the noise is still as loud as ever.
Seeing as the party is still in full swing, I have a feeling that it won't be stopping any time soon and will go on well into the night. I've surmised that it started with a small group of friends and the flat owner in the middle of the night after going clubbing and, judging from the countless people who've been coming in and out of the building, it's been building since the morning. In other words, plenty of the guests will have slept in and won't be in a mood to go early.
What's more, as I was coming back in there were two guys standing outside the building talking (clearly party guests) and they absolutely reeked of alcohol. I didn't even get close but I could smell it five feet away and they didn't have any bottles or glasses in their hands so it was purely on their breath.
I'm not going to complain again at the moment but if it goes beyond 10pm, I will definitely be calling the council again and this time I'll keep calling them until they send someone over. This is beyond a nuisance and is clearly anti-social behaviour. If I could, I'd slap the guy an ASBO. Sadly, I think it takes a little more than two cases for it to get to that extreme.
It's making me so angry though! I'm normally quite a calm person but the lack of sleep and constant noise combined with the sheer lack of respect and common courtesy (he could have at least warned the neighbours beforehand as this party has clearly been planned in advance - they've set up a tent outside) is pushing me on the verge of wanting to smash plates against his door or get a baseball bat and just smash his head in and be done with it.
Instead, I'm going to vent my frustration by playing Heavenly Sword on the PS3. I wish I had something a bit more violent so I could really release my anger such as Grand Theft Auto IV but some good old fashioned one-against-an-army sword-swinging ass-kicking will have to do.

The party is still going on downstairs. At least now I can drown out the noise (or try to) with the TV and luckily I had a big bottle of Pepsi Max in the fridge so the caffeine is keeping me from wanting to sleep.
I still haven't been called back by the so-called Noise officer and I'm tempted to write a strong-worded letter of complaint to my council for handling this so badly.
Whoever this Noise officer is either needs to be replaced or they just need more of them. Whatever happened to the good old days when the police would break up anti-social parties like these?

Noise from downstairs |
] |
The fucker downstairs has been having what can only be labeled as a rave as of 3:43am and is still going on at 10am. When I tried to complain about the noise, my knocking on the door was completely drowned out by the shouting, drug talk, and loud thumpy music.
I called the police at 3:55am and made a complaint. They took my report quite seriously, especially when I mentioned that I overheard them talking about getting some drugs and then tried to go back to sleep while waiting for someone to come. At 5:40am, I rang the police again and they informed me that no one would be coming (except for maybe later about the drug thing) and that the people to talk to about the noise are the environmental officers at the local council. Thankfully, they gave me the number for that.
I called them and was answered by a woman who had clearly just been sleeping and was rather disorientated. She took my message and said she passed it on to the noise office who would be calling me back. An hour later, I rang again to see what was going on and they told they passed my message on again.
After being sleepless all night, feeling like crap and being rather disillusioned by the council that I pay so much money for each month, I rang them again to see why I still hadn't been called back. I spoke to someone else this time and she just said that she would pass the message on again and that I'd get a call from the noise officer but, in spite of me asking her, would not disclose any sort of timeframe within which this might be happening.
I'm so pissed off! I think this guy downstairs is actually just developing the flat and every now and then is using it as a party den. Clearly he doesn't care that there are people who actually live here and can't sleep with all this noise.
Oh, and I'm not the only one who's been affected as I've heard a few people banging on the front door throughout the night and shouting to keep the noise down. I hope that all these people have actually called the council as well but judging by how that phone number isn't posted on every wall and the fact that they still haven't done anything about it, I would guess I'm the only one.
Edit: I can't wait to move to LA where the cops carry guns. I'm not sure how that would help but right now gun carrying cops patrolling the streets would make me feel better than the ones who barely give people a slap on the wrist here.

This extra long weekend with nothing much to do and no money to go anywhere has ended up with me having a Buffy marathon. I'm almost done with season 2 now.
It's gotten me all nostalgic about my geeky pagan roots, both in the early years at high school (and even before that) and the first two years at university. I've also been scouting the web for old adventure games I used to play on my PC back when I was 12-16. Specifically, the Gabriel Knight mystery series. I totally loved those games and I've actually still got the second and third games on CD-ROM. Sadly, as I don't own a PC, I've only got them here for sentimental value as I've got no way of playing them. I really want to play the first one in the series again though, where you're in New Orleans and solving a Voodoo murders case. I think I sold my copy years ago though and, even if I hadn't, I'd still have no way of playing it.
I did find torrents to download the entire series but I'm afraid that's still no help as it's PC only. I sometimes wish I still had one of those because, in all its glory, the PS3 can't recreate the joys of point & click adventure games of the nineties and late eighties.
Eventually I got fed up of searching the web and decided to e-mail the games' designer and ask her directly. I actually corresponded with her by e-mail about 12 years ago or so and she was always very good at e-mailing me back. This carried on for a few months until other things in my life started taking over. The e-mail address I found was from her website but it doesn't seem to have been updated for a few years now so I doubt it'll ever get to her.
In the meantime, I've actually got the novelizations of the first two games that she wrote. The first book isn't all that good as she tried to stick too much to the game but the second book is a lot more like a novel in its own right as she rewrote the story from scratch. I'm so glad I got these books as, unlike the games that are bound to ever changing technology, the written word relies on nothing but the human imagination.
On a different note, I'd like to point all my friends to the journal of an up and coming young writer who will definitely be making a big name of himself over the next few years. He's a young gay American living in Texas and is working on a novel, a graphic novel and a few blog projects. Please check him out at fauxpow and follow all the links to his various projects from there.
Edit: Here's a couple of links - http://shaunindustry.buzznet.com/user/journal/ and his myspace http://www.myspace.com/shaunalicious
Oh, and did I forget to mention he's easy on the eyes too?

After the gym this evening I decided to weigh myself as I hadn't done so in two weeks.
I haven't lost an ounce since two weeks ago. Granted, I haven't been to the gym this week until tonight but I've been quite active and last week I went to the gym loads. Most importantly, I've been killing myself dieting and, although I did have alcohol last Friday and Saturday night, I was careful not to overdo it and I haven't cheated in any other way.
My portions have been smaller, I've been eating healthier food and I really don't understand how I can't have lost any weight in two weeks.
Not only is the fact that my weight loss has stopped in its tracks really discouraging when I'm trying my hardest, but if it's this hard for me to maintain my weight then I guess I'll never get to eat things like chocolate, ice cream, pizza or any of the foods I enjoy anymore. Even if I manage to surpass this block, will I always have to eat tiny portions and no carbs?
I know I can maintain this diet, unlike others I've tried, but if it's stopped working then what's the point?
I guess I should probably weigh myself tomorrow morning again as, until now, I've always weighed myself on Saturday mornings and people tend to weigh more in the evening (I don't know how though as I've not eaten that much today and I can't imagine it adding 2-4lbs on me).
I've gone from feeling a bit chunka-lunka (on top of being annoyed about the money thing) to being downright depressed. Yesterday was such a great day but it seems today things just haven't been going my way.

This morning I noticed a whole section of my road was sectioned off with crime scene tape and there were police officers on every corner. I just checked the BBC news website and it's on the frontpage. A 25 year-old man was stabbed and died on the scene. I often walk on that part of the road at night, particularly after a night out as the bus drops me off on the corner.
This is so scary. If it was a random attack, it could have been me. I'm the same age as the victim.

On saturday, Finch, James and I watched Muriel's Wedding and the topic of cancer came up. Last week I read an article on the BBC website about how 1 in 3 people in the UK get cancer. That means that, statistically, one of us there will get a form of cancer some day.
This whole thing has got me thinking about it and worried about losing people to it or getting it myself. As a result, I've decided to register as a bone marrow donor with the Anthony Nolan Trust and I encourage anyone else who's thinking about it to do so as well.
